Sixteen degrees of separation | 3 March 2008

The most perfect weather this morning. With the collar of my coat folded down, in a big, loose scarf, no hat, no gloves, short pants over tights and shoes, I was the perfect temperature. I did have to undo a couple of buttons when I got on the bus, and I was a bit sniffly at the nose because it was still not that far above freezing, but oh my goodness, over the past few months, I’d forgotten that it could be possible to go outside with skin left uncovered and not regret it.

But not for long: temperatures will descend well into the negatives tonight, and freezing rain, ice pellets, and snow are on their way. Environment Canada gives us the scoop with their eloquent fill-in-the-blank forecast, used in pretty much every winter storm watch this season (a script much like that of the storms themselves), entirely devoid of punctutation other than periods:

Yet another moisture-laden winter storm is starting to take shape over Texas and is setting its sights on southern Ontario. This seems to be following the script of many previous storms this winter season with the centre of the storm tracking just south of lakes Ontario and Erie. Although much of southern Ontario reached daytime highs near the ten degree mark today a sharp cold front will sweep across the area tonight bringing a return to below freezing temperatures on Tuesday.

And there you have it, folks. More belated February weather, with not a comma in sight.
