One dollar | 15 January 2009

A thrift store opened recently on our street, and hanging on display in the window I saw Meat Loaf’s Bat Out of Hell on vinyl. So, seeing as it is one of my favourite albums from my favourite musical act, I had to go in and buy it. The sweetest thing was that the guy running the place had two copies — the one hanging in the window and another in a drawer — and checked them both to see which was in better condition (the record itself, of course, not paying attention to the condition of the cover). I didn’t want to tell him that it didn’t matter since we don’t even have a record player (although perhaps one would serve as a restful counterpoint to the piercing clarity of High Definition), because he went about it so earnestly. The record in the window turned out to be the better copy, so he cut it down from its hangings and I paid him a loonie at the register.
