Guaranteed awesome | 9 August 2008

We’re leaving for Montreal tomorrow morning after a traditional greasy-spoon breakfast in town. I’m looking forward to taking a lot of baths, reading a lot of books, and doing a lot of walking (especially along la rue Notre-Dame Ouest). I’m bringing eight books with me — a stupid number for five days, especially since we’re driving, not flying. But I brought all the wrong books when we went to Vancouver Island last year, so this time I’ve chosen more carefully, with a few guaranteed-awesome (Austen, Sayers, and the Grandison*) and the rest pretty-certain-good (Powell, Proust, Park, Jaffe, and Richler). We have umbrellas and jackets in anticipation of the cool rainy weather that awaits us. We’ll see if they let us try to speak French.
