Goodbye, super comfy futon | 19 May 2008 We sold our futon on Craigslist to a beefy hungover Texan, formerly of the U.S. military but now staying with friends here in Hamilton, who I guess needed something other than the floor to sleep on. He carried the mattress out to his pick-up truck himself, and when he came back for the frame said that he couldn’t remember the last time he’d been so out of breath. We posted the ad on Saturday, got three replies the next day, and the futon was gone early this afternoon. Was our good luck due to the holiday weekend with cool, temperamental weather unsuitable for the non-stop outdoor partying this particular holiday is usually good for? Or to the attractive, wide-angle, natural-light-only photos posted with the ad and our decision to market the futon as “super comfy” with an exclamation point and our unusual use of complete sentences? We’ll never know. The futon was certainly capable of being super comfy, especially when I bought it for my first apartment about four years ago, but the mattress started to exhibit a lack of interest in remaining on its frame in the upright position and began to take over the room. So we bought a new sofa for the living room, and the blue sofa that’s now in the living room will go in the TV room where the futon used to be. But the new sofa isn’t here yet, making us one sofa short for a month or so. We’ll move it to the TV room when we want to watch a movie, and move it back to the living room when we want to read books. <—– Previous: Georgia Aquarium | Next: Alexander –—>
